California physician Dr. Randy D. Pi has made a significant leadership gift in support of the AAW's David Ellsworth Legacy Project and has been named Honorary Chair of the fundraising effort.
One of the leading collectors of art in wood, Randy’s collection numbers more than 900 pieces from around the world, including 18 by David Ellsworth. Among them are some exemplary and iconic works, including the first piece in Ellsworth’s Solstice series from 1981.
Randy considers David to be a living treasure. "His works are a harmony of the material, the surface, and the quiet power of revealed volume. Masterpieces by him are essential to any public or private collection of art in wood--several, in fact, are required to capture the range of his creative output over the last 50 years," he says.
“No one in the world of wood is more deserving to have his life's work documented.” Randy adds.
